Family Sponsorship Program

Introduction

If you are a Canadian Citizen, OR a person registered in Canada as an India under the Canadian Indian Act, Or a permanent resident of Canada, then you can sponsor certain relative to come to Canada if you are at least 18 years old. Your relative after becoming permanent resident of Canada can live, study and work in Canada 

Sponsor your Spouse, Partner, or dependent children

  

You must be able to support your spouse, partner, or dependent children to become permanent residents of Canada. It is mandatory by law that your spouse, partner, or dependent children will become burden on social benefits, and they don’t need social assistance form the government.


What is undertaking and its duration.

A sponsor must also sign a promise to the government that her/is sponsored spouse or partner will not need to apply for social assistance. This is called an undertaking. If the sponsored person does receive social assistance, the sponsor will have to pay the money back to the government.


  • For spouse, de facto spouse, conjugal partner, or partner: undertaking for at least three (3) years.
  • Dependent child under the age of 13 (on the date when the obligations set forth herein take effect): undertake for at least ten (10) years OR until the age of majority (18 years), whichever is longer.
  • Dependent child aged 13 or over (on the date when the obligations set forth herein take effect): undertake for at least three (3) years OR until age 22, whichever is longer.
  • Parent or Grandparent: undertake for at least 20 years
  • Other relative, the undertaking is for at least ten (10) years.


Income requirement:

Most of the cases, if you sponsor your spouse, partner or dependent child, there is not an income requirement. You only need to show you have enough money to meet he income requirement:

  • You are sponsoring a dependent child that has 1 or more dependent children of their own.
  • You are sponsoring a spouse or partner that has a dependent child, and their dependent child has 1 or more children of their own.

  • Sponsor a spouse/partner: $ 1,050
  • Dependent child: $150


For GLENFIDDICH

  • $ 2500 For Spouse (Principal Applicant)
  • $ 800 (added dependent child up to 2)
  • $ 200 After 2nd dependent (for each)

Varied By Country: Average 12 month

Sponsor your parents and grandparents:

In terms of sponsoring your parents or grandparents, you should submit the interest to sponsor, then should be invited to apply.


TWO applications will be submitted.

  • The sponsorship application and
  • The permanent residence application


If both the applications are approved, you will sign an agreement called an undertaking.

UNDERTAKING for parents or grandparents: At least for 20 years.


You could only sponsor your parents or grandparent if you are related to them by blood or adoption.


The people you sponsor must also be eligible to show they meet the eligibility requirements of medical exams, police certificates, biometrics.

  • $ 3000 (If couple - Parent or Grandparent)
  • $ 200 Added Child (each)

Income Requirement in Family Sponsorship

Sponsor Your Relative – Lonely Canadian

Additional Information

In one of the programs under lonely Canadian you may be able to sponsor certain relative to immigrate to Canada under the Family Class. You must be


  • at least 18 years old.
  • Canadian Citizen Or
  • Person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act OR
  • Permanent Resident of Canada


You must support your relative financially when they arrive and be able to meet basic needs for yourself and your relative, such as: Food, Shelter, Clothing and make sure your relative doesn’t need social assistance.


Undertake for at least 20 years.


Your responsibilities

You must meet set income guidelines and agree in writing to give financial support to your relative and any other eligible relatives coming with them:

beginning on the date they become a permanent resident

for up to 20 years (depending on their age and how you’re related)

The person you sponsor must sign an agreement saying they will make the effort to support themselves. This includes sponsored dependent children 18 or older. Dependent children under 19 don’t have to sign this agreement.


To whom you can sponsor:

You can sponsor an orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild only if they meet some mandatory conditions.

You can sponsor other ONE relative, related by blood or adoption, of any age. Conditions Apply.
